Excellent article. Mechanical key switches definitely have a much nicer feel than the common rubber membrances. This company still makes full-size keyboards with mechanical switches, much like the old IBM's:
http://pckeyboards.stores.yahoo.net/ I have one of their updates of the classic IBM Model M, and it is very good quality and feels great to type on. This vendor has a selection of mechanical switch keyboards. I bought a couple of keyboards from them recently and they turned around my order in a couple of days: http://www.fentek-ind.com/mechanical-keyboard.htm My favorite keyboard these days is actually the compact Happy Hacking keyboard. The "Lite" model is rubber membrane and I have used a couple of them for years with no issue. It actually feels pretty good considering it is not mechanical. Apparently they do or did manufacture some more expensive models with mechanical switches but alas they do not seem to be available, at least in the U.S. A Happy Hacking keyboard with mechanical switches would be my idea of a perfect keyboard. I have absolutely no connection to any of the above vendors, I am just obsessed with keyboards (and avoiding mice) and am happy to share. Tom P.S. Thank you Shawn for making life better for the keyboard-centric amongst us.
