Quitting the stumpwm repl also closes stumpwm

I quit a stumpwm repl in emacs by entering a comma in the REPL and then
quit <RET>. This works fine, but then a few moments later the whole
stumpwm closes and I'm back to a tty screen. How can I close the REPL
without shutting down stumpwm?
