Sony Cineza HS-51 Three-Chip LCD Video Projector Reviewed

No sector of the home theater is hotter than HDTV and, with recent advances in
video technologies, it is now possible for the mainstream consumer to buy a
projector that is capable of beaming a gigantic picture onto a screen that is
nearly twice the width of even the largest big screen sets. Historically, it
cost tens of thousands of dollars to accomplish this feat in rooms that were
dedicated for home theater use. Today, thanks to technologies like DLP, LCD and
D-ILA, you can enjoy a bright, beautiful picture from a projector that weighs
less than Paris Hilton¹s dog and fits in a Jimmy Choo shoebox.

The Sony Cineza HS-51 video projector is a three-chip LCD machine that is
priced relatively affordably at $3,495.00. The HS-51 includes a number of
unique features that contribute to its overall success as a terrific home
theater projector. One of these features is the incredibly bright 135 watt UHP
bulb, which allows one to create images as wide as 16.6 feet (200 inches,
according to the manual). Installation and set-up for the mainstream user is
pretty simple, thanks to the manual vertical and horizontal lens offsets. This
allows the projector to be extremely far off-center and still create a
beautifully square image without the usual keystone effects. Positioning of the
projector can be as far off as the sides of the screen. A manual zoom
(1.23-1.46) and focus ring provide quick adjustments that will let you create
an image on a wall or screen in less than five minutes. The input complement
features options for composite, S-Video, Component (YPrPb SD and HD 480i, 480p,
720
 p, 1080i), D-Sub 15 (computer/Sat RGB input) and HDMI. The arrangement is
physically a little tight, but it is far better than the extension cable input
that has been featured with earlier Cineza projectors.

Revolution Home Theater Feature Film Reviews

Batman Begins
Reviewed By Bill Warren
Rating: Three and a half stars

³Batman Begins² is a good Batman movie, but not the great Batman movie fans
have been hoping for. It¹s too long, the fight sequences are ruined by the
standard action-movie overdone MTV-type editing, and the script covers more
stuff than it should. There¹s also something askew in the style of the Batman
sequences‹yes, he¹s a creature of the night, he¹s the Dark Knight, but these
scenes are often much too dark. And we don¹t get enough looks at Batman in
action.

However, it does many more things right than it does wrong. The last two movies
in the previous Batman series, both directed by Joel Schumacher, were
grotesquely overdone, largely smirking action comedies styled more like the
Adam West TV series than the two Tim Burton-directed movies that began the
big-scale series. Since then, the many movies based on Marvel Comics heroes
have generally been enormous blockbusters, even the much-maligned ³Hulk.²
Warner Bros. is now owned by the same company that owns DC Comics, Marvel¹s
long-time rival, so they¹ve had access to the two most famous superheroes of
all, Superman and Batman.

Warners has made reasonable use of Superman in the ³Lois & Clark² and
³Smallville² series, with a new feature now in production, and both have been
given lively workout in TV animation. And, of course, the comic books
themselves are still published.

Your System Will Sound Like It Does at Midnight, 24/7

A recent test report on the PurePower 1050 began by reminding audiophiles that
their systems have always sounded their best at midnight. Why? At that hour,
the local power utility is delivering its cleanest, most accurate power. At
midnight, the current flows and system dynamics can be reached that at other
hours of the day are impossible. Until now.

PurePower is the first and only power conditioner in the world that takes the
inbound AC power from the utility, converts it to DC, then back to perfect
voltage sinewave with no noise, distortion, spikes, or sags, even if the
inbound voltage is ZERO. Its built-in batteries protect and isolate your system
from the local utility in a way that no other conditioner can, giving you that
³midnight² sound quality every time you listen, regardless of the time of
day.

Memento

"Memento" is movie production as a unique art form. The concept of vengeance is
an old one, presumably brought into being directly following the first act of
aggression triggered by jealousy and hate. Vengeance has been a driving force
of several movies, and all of the action heroes that have pursued the
satisfaction of revenge through celluloid worlds owe a certain part of their
career to this raw emotion.

When discussing "Memento," the word "elegance" pops up immediately. "Memento"
possesses a stripped-down, fist-in-your-face kind of elegance that few other
movies have ever had to this degree. The audience is sucked into the storyline,
wide-eyed with wonder and awe because the first few minutes of the film are
truly what would be the end of most other movies, yet the audience doesn¹t
even know the characters, doesn¹t even know what¹s at stake except for the
details printed on the DVD case.

Insomnia

Released theatrically earlier this year, "Insomnia" is a keenly intelligent
thriller with some great textured details that give it a distinctive,
enveloping atmosphere. Adapted from a 1998 Norwegian thriller (which is in turn
adapted from a novel), "Insomnia" puts a famed big-city homicide detective in
the middle of nowhere on a murder case, where old questionable judgment, new
tragedy and complications threaten to destroy him in the course of doing his
job. Adding to the detective¹s woes is the fact that he suffers from insomnia,
which is considerably worsened by his new environment a corner of the world
so near the Arctic Circle that at this time of year, there is sunlight 24 hours
a day.

Detective Will Dormer (Al Pacino) and his partner Hap Eckhardt (Martin Donovan)
are summoned to the tiny town of Nightmute, Alaska by the local police chief
(Paul Dooley), an old colleague who has both his own and Will¹s best interests
at heart.
