Optoma H79 DLP Projector Reviewed

DLP chips keep getting better and better and cheaper too. With awesome stats
and an ultra-bright picture for HD and DVD-movies alike - could this be your
next projector?

The H79 is the latest top-of-the-line DLP projector from Optoma and one of the
first on the market to utilize Texas Instruments' new DarkChip3. The H79 is
priced at $9,999, a competitive sum for a top of the line projector with the
newest video chip technology. The DarkChip3 is the latest iteration in the HD2+
series of DLP chips and improves upon the prior Mustang chip by closing the gap
between panels, making the reverse side of the panels more light-absorbent, as
well as removing the dimple on each of the panels. Like the prior HD2+ series
chips, the DarkChip3 features a HD-capable resolution of 1,280 x 720 and a 16:9
aspect ratio. These changes increase contrast and help the H79 obtain its
reported 4,500:1 contrast ratio. It was not clear how this projector was
measured to get such incredibly high contrast numbers, considering that many
other top projectors costing many times more money have many times less
contrast.

Optoma knows that a top-performing chip alone does not make for a great
projector and made sure that the new DarkChip3 enhancements were not wasted in
this aggressively priced projector. The H79 has a decisively simple appearance,
with its cream-colored chassis that is fairly square, void of any fancy
race-inspired lines, and measures 16.9 inches by five-and-a-third inches by 12
inches wide.

Anthony Gallo Acoustics
The Reference3 Speaks For Itself
"... Not since the Vandersteen 2 has a loudspeaker come on to the audio scene
with such assuredness of success. Not since the Vandy has a speaker so outpaced
the competition in terms of quality and value at its price point as has this
Gallo loudspeaker." Martin DeWolf - Bound For Sound

"... This speaker combines so much unconventional thinking, novel applications
and build quality in such a balanced, physically compact but sonically
gargantuan and full-range design, and for such an exceedingly fair price that
some drastic measure of formal recognition was required to truly separate it
out from the crowds that make up the $3,000 - $10,000 floorstanding speaker
field." Srajan Ebaen - sixmoons.com

Revolution Home Theater Feature Film Reviews

The Island
Reviewed By Bill Warren
Rating: Two and a half stars

"The Island" is a fast paced but peculiarly repetitive big-scale science
fiction/action thriller set in the near future. As it is directed by Michael
Bay, dialogue and performance are shunted aside in favor of speed speed speed.
Bay directs movies as though he's convinced that characterization and the
dialogue and behavior that establish it is just a device to hobble his burning
desire for sheer velocity.

Sometimes, as with "Bad Boys II," his movies also lack anything but a semblance
of a plot. The script of "The Island", credited to the wonderfully-named
Caspian Tredwell-Owen and the team of Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci, actually
does have a plot, although it's strongly reminiscent of a mostly-forgotten 1979
movie, "Parts: The Clonus Horror." "The Island" also resembles a whole
truckload of other, mostly better, movies, including "Logan's Run," "THX-1138,"
"Minority Report," "Gattaca" and many others.

It opens with Lincoln Six Echo (Ewan McGregor) tortured by a nightmare
involving a ship, lots of water and faceless people torturing him. He awakes to
his normal life, which isn't normal to us...

Introducing the completely redesigned RBH MC Series Mark II

Designed for both audio and home theater enthusiasts, the MC Series features
RBH's proprietary aluminum cone technology; the same technology in their
flagship products. Because of the inherent stiffness, low mass and self-damping
properties found in aluminum, these advanced drivers deliver crisp, clear sound
with the immediacy and accuracy needed to deliver the realism of today's
high-definition music and movies.

Computer optimized crossover networks allow smooth integration between drivers
while increasing power handling and minimizing distortion.

Revolution Home Theater Featured DVD Reviews
Read Two More Michael Bay DVD Reviews on RHT...

The Rock (Criterion Edition)
"The Rock" was one of the best thrillers of 1996, surpassing 'Mission:
Impossible.' But Michael Bay's next film, 'Armageddon,' was so awesomely awful
that it's easy to forget how entertaining -- if improbable -- 'The Rock' is.
It's usually remembered for the spectacular, but over the top, San Francisco
car chase that comes early in the proceedings. This terrific DVD set from
Criterion will remind everyone what a fun time can be had on 'The Rock.'

Unlike most action movies, one standout element here are the characters and
star turns from Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage and Ed Harris, as well as a
particularly good supporting cast. It's not all just slam-bang action and
effects, though there are plenty of both. The second disc includes a fairly
interesting look at how the effects were done.

Marine General Francis X. Hummel (Ed Harris) leads a completely illicit raid on
a weaponsdepot, using a hand-picked, loyal (he thought) assault team...

Pearl Harbor
"Pearl Harbor" is essentially the story of two buddies, Rafe McCawley (Ben
Affleck) and Danny Walker (Josh Hartnett), and the military nurse (Kate
Beckinsale) who is the love of their lives, played out against the horror that
was the Japanese attack on the Hawaiian Islands on December 7, 1941. The story
of this friendship, the loss and accidental betrayal of love, and the courage
needed by the men who faced the devastation of the American military base
provides the thread that pulls together a dozen different stories and give the
movie its scope. However, the different story arcs get somewhat tangled and at
times lost in the choreography of the battle and in the emotional fallout after
the attack.

Chapter 1 begins with a beautiful montage of a biplane against a dulled gold
sun. As the plane passes over a small airstrip, the buzz of the prop wash
cycles from the center speaker(s) to the left then the right main, giving the
viewer the impression that the plane just missed him or her. The story moves on
into the lives of young Rafe, who is dyslexic, and young Danny, who has an
abusive father scarred by service during World War I.
