Mt. Sierra College

As the lights dim and you sink into the plush seats of this custom theater
designed and installed by Elite Custom Audio & Video, it's easy to forget that
a few steps outside the door are the halls of academia. College students make
their way to and from classes, yet inside this custom-designed theater at Mt.
Sierra College in Monrovia, California, the hustle and bustle of a normal
school day is shut out of sight and mind while film students take in a
screening of the latest masterworks by one of the school's next Spielbergs in
training.

The theater not only serves as a classroom and a screening room for the
students and faculty of the film school, it is also an art gallery for the
graphic arts students. Elite installed special accent lighting so that the
students' projects can be hung on the wall and featured for everyone to see. A
neutral gray color scheme with dark wooden accents in the room makes a perfect
blank canvas for any artwork that is hung on the walls. Knowing that the pieces
would frequently be rotated in and out, Elite created custom brackets that
attach to the frames or matte boards and then slide into place on the wall.
They are sturdy enough to stay in place when the subwoofer is really shaking
things up, but are easy to remove without damaging the artwork. The recessed
lights that are controlled by a Lutron Graphic Eye make perfect accent lights
for the artwork and can also be customized for various lighting scenes,
depending on the needs of the staff and students...

There's a real BOB behind every Sunfire product.
Ever seen a photo of Ronnie Rotel or Dick Denon? Unlike huge faceless
corporations, Sunfire is the unique, personal vision of one audio genius, Bob
Carver.

Most audio geniuses would be content to have founded just two landmark audio
companies. But after creating Phase Linear and Carver Corporation, Bob still
had more innovative technology in his system. He wanted to express these ideas
in meticulously-built, premium audio products that would offer exceptional
value and sound quality.

And that's what you get when you buy Sunfire. A great product from the mind and
soul of Bob Carver.

Revolution Home Theater Feature Film Reviews

Sky High
Reviewed By Bill Warren
Rating: Three stars

Although it seems contradictory, sometimes the central virtue of a movie is
also its principal defect. So it is with "Sky High." Virtue: it's a comedy
about a high school for super heroes. Defect: it's a high school comedy about a
school for super heroes. That is, while it's partly an amusing, likeable take
on the idea of super heroes at a high school designed for them, the storyline
is altogether too familiar: the same basic plot, minus super powers, was being
used in silent movies and came to flower with the Andy Hardy movies of the 30s
and 40s. Entire sitcoms, lots of them, have been built on the same soshes vs.
geeks/sports stars vs. nerds dichotomies. "Sky High" falls into the sports
stars vs. nerds category of high school comedies.

Screenwriters Paul Hernandez and the team of Bob Schooley & Mark McCorkle come
up with many bright ideas, and unlike the majority of other writers doing this
sort of thing actually have some fun with language itself. Dad Kurt Russell
assures son Will that "You will, Will!" That's just a tossaway line - there's
no pause for laughs - but does indicate that these guys hear their own dialogue
and know its value. They continue to throw away lines throughout the movie: in
the high school cafeteria, we can barely overhear the announcement that
sidekicks shouldn't order hero sandwiches.)...

Revolution Home Theater Featured DVD Reviews
Read Two More Disney DVD Reviews on RHT...

Freaky Friday
Although offering nothing really new in the ages-old miscommunication and lack
of mutual understanding between mothers and daughters, as well as being a
remake of an earlier movie, "Freaky Friday" delivers an enjoyable take on the
issue and on the role-reversal plot device that has become something of a
standard, in one form or another, of teen movies. In 2003, Disney Studios came
in second place for the most box office proceeds, and "Freaky Friday" got the
nod for being a major contributor to that ranking.

Dr. Tess Coleman (Jamie Lee Curtis), widow and mother of two, has found a man
she believes she can share the rest of her life with. Unfortunately, she's
stressed out by the wedding plans and her job as a psychiatric counselor. Anna
(Lindsay Lohan), her teenage daughter, struggles daily with school where she
deals with a rival, an English teacher with an obvious grudge, trying to keep
her rock band together, and getting to meet one of the hottest guys in school.
Both women arrive at major turning points in their lives and, through a bit of
magic, end up having to face those turning points in each other's bodies.

Aladdin (Disney Platinum Edition)
Since its debut in 1992, Disney fans eagerly awaited the release of "Aladdin"
on DVD. In true Disney fashion regarding one of their mega-hits, the House of
Mouse delivers a jam-packed two-disc collection that contains the movie in
widescreen, boosted to 5.1 Dolby Digital, with extras and games galore.

The most shining performance in the whole movie is Robin Williams' portrayal of
the genie of the lamp. Although the story still flows in a more or less
formulaic style and gets pretty much from Point A to Point B in a tidy and
quick fashion, the genie proves to be the wild card. During "A Diamond In The
Rough: The Making of 'Aladdin'," viewers are treated to comments and some
information concerning Williams' characterization of the mystical being with
the ability to grant the possessor of the lamp three wishes. Williams performed
the script he was given, but went way beyond anyone's expectations when he
started ad-libbing dialogue and responses, outlining whole skits that could
conceivably be shoehorned into the movie...
