Sony QUALIA 006 Rear Projection TV Reviewed

Have you ever imagined a television that made you really feel that the image is
a window on your world of programming, achieving the sort of drop dead gorgeous
quality that no one can look away from (unless the person just doesn't care
about TV or picture quality)? As someone who already owns two Sony QUALIA 004
front projectors, I naturally had high hopes and expectations when I decided to
take the plunge and buy a QUALIA 006 rear projector for another room in my
lab/home. The first of these expectations included an exceptionally sharp
picture (even by comparison to 35mm film projected at the same size), as befits
Sony's new SXRD 1920 by 1080p three-chip reflective LCos technology. Another
was outlandish light output (I measured 90 foot-lamberts with the bulb in the
low mode and a contrast ratio of over 3000 to 1!). Finally, fantastic styling
(like a Cartier Watch), as well as a wealth of the usual inputs, including two
HDMI (one with separate L/R audio inputs) and two 1394
firewire four-pin (front and back), suitable for use with most camcorders,
still cameras and video HDCP-compliant devices like Sony laptops and certain
DVD players.

PurePower - Your System Will Sound Like It Does at Midnight, 24/7
A recent test report on the PurePower 1050 began by reminding audiophiles that
their systems have always sounded their best at midnight. Why? At that hour,
the local power utility is delivering its cleanest, most accurate power. At
midnight, the current flows and system dynamics can be reached that at other
hours of the day are impossible. Until now.

PurePower is the first and only power conditioner in the world that takes the
inbound AC power from the utility, converts it to DC, then back to perfect
voltage sinewave with no noise, distortion, spikes, or sags, even if the
inbound voltage is ZERO. Its built-in batteries protect and isolate your system
from the local utility in a way that no other conditioner can, giving you that
"midnight" sound quality every time you listen, regardless of the time of day.

Revolution Home Theater Feature Film Reviews

Four Brothers
Reviewed By Bill Warren
Rating: Four stars

Some claim this is a remake of the John Wayne Western "The Sons of Katie Elder"
(1965), but though it has a similar premise, they're very different movies. And
this is despite "Four Brothers" being a top-notch urban action movie‹and they
have become the contemporary westerns.

It takes place in Detroit. In the opening scene we see tough but fair community
activist Evelyn Mercer (Fionnula Flanagan) whose special interest in troubled
kids has caused her to linger in a convenience store. The door bursts open and
two masked gunmen rush in, killing first the clerk and then Evelyn...

Introducing the completely redesigned RBH MC Series Mark II
Designed for both audio and home theater enthusiasts, the MC Series features
RBH's proprietary aluminum cone technology; the same technology in their
flagship products. Because of the inherent stiffness, low mass and self-damping
properties found in aluminum, these advanced drivers deliver crisp, clear sound
with the immediacy and accuracy needed to deliver the realism of today's
high-definition music and movies.

Computer optimized crossover networks allow smooth integration between drivers
while increasing power handling and minimizing distortion.

Boogie Nights (Platinum Edition)
'Boogie Nights' by writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson is dazzling and
involving, funny and dramatic, affectionate and satiric -- and wonderfully
entertaining from opening scene to the last image. It's about two and a half
hours, but there's not a dull frame in the movie. The most original movie of
1997, it established Anderson at once as a major director; this was only
confirmed by 'Magnolia.'

The way Anderson handles a Panavision camera is novel -- he uses off-center,
even unbalanced compositions -- and his occasional quick cuts is unusual,
almost innovative. But mostly, it's in the way he approaches his material
that's so refreshing and entertaining, and so radically different from the
films named above, which are critical of the subsections of society in which
they take place.

The Italian Job
The original 1969 "The Italian Job" is considered by many to be a classic of
the crime-caper genre, lighthearted subdivision. This reviewer is embarrassed
to admit to having seen only the climax, which has a fantastic chase sequence
something the new version has a few of and a literal cliffhanger ending,
which is not the case here.

The 2003 version of "The Italian Job" which will strike most viewers as a
remake, despite protests to the contrary by the filmmakers in the supplemental
material works just fine on its own merits. In fact, it harkens back to 1969
not so much because it incorporates elements of its predecessor (Italian
locations, mini-cars, etc.), but because it has that era's breezy confidence in
its own tone. Director F. Gary Gray and writers Donna Powers & Wayne Powers
neither muck around with post-modern self-parody nor traffic in unearned
grimness...
