JVC Professional DLA-HX2U D-ILA Projector

Since the first days of commercially available digital projectors, I have been
a convert. A mere four years ago, I owned an older Sony seven-inch CRT video
projector paired with the all-time classic video processor, the Faroudja LD100.
The picture looked smooth and film-like. It also had no brightness, barely
being able to light up a 100-inch 4 to 3 Stewart Filmscreen StudioTek 130
screen, and switching inputs was a nightmare. Working on the projector required
a professional technician, which means that in order to keep the sucker
converged, I needed a trip from Dr. Feelgood every three to four months. While
having a big screen to watch hockey games was cool, the work needed to get such
a video picture was trying, to say the least.

All of this changed in 2002, when I invested in a Madrigal Imaging MPD-1 video
processor from Madrigal (parent company of Mark Levinson, Lexicon and Proceed).
The projector was the latest in digital video technology being powered by
hand-picked D-ILA chips, which was provided thanks to a partnership between JVC
and Harman (who owns Madrigal). The difference was night and day. Many industry
people who saw my projector were impressed as to how much better, brighter and
more accurate it looked than its predecessor.

Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall... Which Power Conditioner Is Most Powerful Of All?
- PurePower
If you're confused by the claims and "specs" of the AC Power Conditioners, its
no wonder. There is no single standard of power output in watts that everybody
agrees on. For consumers who want to protect their valuable components and
experience them at their best, 3 brands have taken over the category and should
be considered; PurePower, PS Audio, and ExactPower. These are the top
performers, not just in our opinion, but in the opinion of the trade press and
many knowledgeable audio and videophiles.

In an effort to bring some clarity to the issue, PurePower has created a
comparison chart that explains the three different methods of measuring power
output and how the top three brands rate themselves. This is all published data
from each manufacturer. Also noted is how all three handle blackouts,
brownouts, surges, sags, over and under voltage. These anomalies are the
biggest threats to the power supplies in your equipment so knowing how the
conditioner manages these conditions is a critical factor when considering
which conditioner to buy.

Movie Review: Corpse Bride

Reviewed by: Bill Warren
Rating: Four Stars

Amazing but true fact: Tim Burton made "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" in
the midst of also making "Corpse Bride." It's astonishing that a director could
divide his focus this way and still turn out two very agreeable, entertaining
movies. Granted, he co-directed "Corpse Bride" (which may more properly be
called "Tim Burton's Corpse Bride"), and it's entirely in stop motion, like "A
Nightmare Before Christmas" and "James and the Giant Peach" before it. Still,
Burton seems to do his best when things get complicated.

"Corpse Bride" is also, wonder of wonders, a musical, with lively and touching
songs by Danny Elfman, who also performs the role of tap-dancing skeleton
Bonejangles. At times, the sound recording is muffled so‹unlike musicals from
Hollywood's golden age‹it's often hard to understand the lyrics. But what
you're watching is so lively and interesting that mere coherence can happily be
ignored.

Revolution Home Theater Featured DVD Reviews
Read Two More Tim Burton Animation DVD Reviews...

James and the Giant Peach
In 1993, the delightful, unique "A Nightmare Before Christmas" briefly
re-established stop-motion animation as a major story-telling technique. Even
before that film was released, its director Henry Selick had reunited much of
the movie's crew to begin production on this adaptation of Roald Dahl's
much-loved James and the Giant Peach. But while this one is often charming, as
well as handsomely designed and animated, it lacks the excitement and novelty
of "Nightmare." It's even a little plodding at times, partly because much of it
-- necessarily -- takes place on top and inside of the giant peach of the title.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (Special Edition)
"The Nightmare Before Christmas," conceived, designed and co-produced by Tim
Burton, remains one of the most astonishing and, in its own black-comic way,
one of the loveliest of all holiday movies. It's a highly stylized animated
puppet musical -- actually closer to an operetta -- about Halloween and
Christmas. It's both free-wheeling and tightly disciplined, ostensibly for
children but really for adults, a cheerfully creepy tale of misplaced,
misguided but good-hearted ambition, even if that heart is a bit black around
the edges.
