Smaller AV Gear Coming to a Home Theater Near You

As AVR Editor Bryan Southard and I strolled across the floor of the recent 
CEDIA tradeshow in Indianapolis, Indiana ­ we were struck by a receiver from 
Denon that we have in for review but we had never seen before in person. What 
was so striking about this Denon black box was its huge size ­ specifically its 
height. It must have been pushing a foot tall and amazingly had connections for 
everything. The back of the receiver was nothing short of mind blowing. As 
Bryan and I poured over where we might connect our Xbox or D-VHS players ­ it 
dawned on me that the trend of bigger gear is likely to end sooner than later.

Sony's New $10,000 1080p SXRD Projector - Sony has unveiled a new 1920 x 1080p 
high-definition front projector based on its own Silicon X-tal Reflective 
Display technology with a reported contrast ratio of up to 15,000:1. The 
VPL-VW100 uses three SXRD chips (a separate one for red, green and blue color 
reproduction) to deliver over six million native pixels.

Samsung's 1080p DLP Rear Projection Sets In Stores Now - 1080p is the latest 
trend in high-definition sets and Samsung is shipping its own line of 1080p DLP 
rear projection TVs ranging from 50- to 70-inches. The 68-series is anchored by 
the 67-inch HL-R6768W ($5,999) and also includes the 56-inch HL-R5668W ($4,199) 
and 61-inch HL-R6168W ($4,699).
