Is 5.1 surround sound becoming obsolete?
We've seen recent industry estimates that say less than 30% of flat-panel TVs are connected to an audio system. We find this interesting because most flat-panel TVs sound like a 1963 transistor radio.
So why do people choose not to add a 5.1 surround system to these new sets? Simple:
![]() |
Complexity of installation, use and cost. |
![]() |
People don't want a room full of boxes and wires. |
![]() |
They don't want complicated owner's manuals and remotes. |
![]() |
They don't want to pay $1,200 for a sound system to go with their $1,500 TV. |

Why does Macworld like our Mini better than the Apple Hifi?
Most audio systems designed for use with iPods® are sleek looking little plastic things with tiny chrome drivers that make sound that reminds us of a kid hitting a cookie tin with a spoon. And while there are some decent systems out there, we haven't yet run across one under $200 that can keep up with the ZVOX Mini:

That's why Macworld says: "The Mini is much smaller, lighter, and cheaper than the iPod Hi-Fi, while actually sounding better. The ZVOX Mini is highly recommended." Click to read more.

What's in your bedroom?
Ok, you've got a terrific home theater system - big screen TV, 5.1 surround, HD DVD player, the works. But what about the TV in the bedroom? Or your office? The kitchen? In those places you listen to the horrific, painful, so-bad-they-should-be-outlawed tinny-sounding speakers built into those flat-panel TVs. Shame on you - when for the price of a high-end HDMI cable you could add a ZVOX Mini to that bedroom TV. Click to read more.
