This is a known issue with the Marble implementation.
There are several ways in which it appears to "forget" your preferred
zoom setting. Instead it will stay "pretty far out" and you have to
manually zoom back in (just use your scroll wheel / scroll gesture over
the map area).

This is something I am trying to reproduce. I just got the latest Beta
installed in a Windows VM when your email arrived :-)

On Mac and Linux a single click does not set a location (at east for
me).

I also have occasional crazy behavior from Marble. I updated the
libraries used in the Mac and Windows binary to a newer version with
tons of bug fixes but that still doesn't seem to address some of these
issues.

I love the way it looks when it works. It drives me insane in how many
subtle (and not so subtle) ways it frequently fails :-(
