Sorry, of course you are right, I misunderstood what that checkbox does.

You can simulate that feature already: When you open the planner it copies the 
the gases of the currently selected dive. So If you already have a dive with 
standard gases just select that one. Or make up such a dive as a dummy. It’s 
just that you have to know which set you want to use when you start planning, 
you cannot go to a different set later (but of course you can edit the gas 
list).

If you still wanted to implement that feature, maybe it would be simpler to 
have a “Save current gases as a set for later access” button rather than 
implementing yet another table where you can edit a gas list. Another question 
(which the approach of copying the gases from a selected dive circumvents) 
would be where to store those gas lists: In the preferences (in which case you 
would have to serialise the gas list table) or in the xml/git?
