The volume per time of gas breathed is assumed to be constant known as surface air consumption or SAC). But the gas pressure at which the gas is breathed (equal to the water pressure) varies with depth. This means the rate at which cylinder pressure reduces varies with depth. At 10m the rate is close to 2x the rate at the surface.
