Looks like somebody enabled colorization, and then the mailer ended up
escaping the ESC bytes as '^[' . Those escape sequences are ANSI color
codes.
Maybe Tim was playing with options, and had "--color=always" or something?
Not knowingly, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen ;-)
