hmm, being able to start from a predefined set of cylinders has of course the
largest benefit if it saves you reentering a complex setup. Maybe we can come
up with a solution that serves everybody?

I have understood only now that it can make sense to start a dive with a gas
change (before I thought that would not be a gas change, it would be a a
different starting gas). So t=0 is a perfectly fine time for a gas change
event. Maybe we need to separate the implicit events from the genuin t=0 gas
changes by moving the implicit ones to t=-1? This would require to make that
field signed (the cost would be that the maximal duration of a dive would be 68
years or do we encounter problems when doing arithmetic with the epoch?). That
would leave the problem of how to treat old logs.

OTOH, I still do not really understand what the problem is with not showing the
gas change icon at t=0 even for those genuine gas changes mentioned by Davide?
As long as the user can enter those, the gas use graphs are there as well as
the gas use calculation.

Best
