Hi,

yesterday, my provider decided it would be a good idea to shut down my server
(they say they had sent a mail before but that never reached me). And then
bringing it up again took almost 24h (first I needed to do a password recovery
for their stupid front end which involved my wife having to send pictures of
her passport, don’t ask…) then the stupid thing refused to come up. Then the
helpdesk suggested I should start afresh with an empty hard drive.

Needless to say, I realised how much of what I do depends on that machine: All
my email routes there (and thus bounced for an extended period of time), my
website, my blog (which I had to turn off since all this started my somebody
abusing my wordpress instance), IRC (thanks to Quassel) , mail archive.

And of course, I did not have backup…

Now the thing is up again (minus wordpress) but I might have missed some
important mails. Recovering my mental sanity will probably take the rest of the
day.

And yes, I will move to another provide. As soon, as I handed in my tax
declaration…

Best
Robert
