It's not /dev/ttyUSB0.
It's "usbmonX" (where X is the USB bus number that the device is on).
You do need to have the "usbmon" kernel module inserted - I think it
should happen automatically, but you may have to do a "modprobe
usbmon" if debian requires manual intervention.
