The deco information on top of the profile is the one that Subsurface uses to 
calculate its own deco information.
This way you can compare the ceilings your dive computer reports with the 
after-the-fact calculated ceilings based on a standard algorithm. You can 
define the deco algorithm used in the Preferences.

Very few dive computers actually tell us which algorithm (and GF or other 
parameters) they use. And there is no standard way for them to report that 
information to us. And additionally, even if the dive computer claims to use 
the exact same algorithm (let's say Bühlmann ZH-L16 with the same GF) as 
Subsurface does, we still routinely see fairly noticeable differences between 
the ceilings reported by the dive computer and the ones we calculate after the 
fact.
