Some updates on our cloud storage.
The existing cloud servers are getting older and with the significant increase of cloud users (now approaching twenty five thousand accounts) seemed a bit under-powered (which often lead to very slow response times and sometimes complete failure). Thankfully (thanks to the generosity of a handful of users - about a dozen of the ~25k people, or 0.05% - pretty much as expected for free resources on the internet, I guess) I have some funds to use for additional cloud resources. I took advantage of a couple of nice "year end sale" opportunities with two different cloud providers to add two more, significantly beefier cloud servers to our fleet. As usual, I managed to get a few people caught in the transition (I think those are mostly straightened out by now - if you have odd issues, please reach out), but at this point everyone should be using the new servers. In a moment of over-eagerness I asked myself "wouldn't it be better to have MORE cloud servers" - and so instead of decommissioning the old servers I have kept them around. And submitted a pull request that will allow us to try among four different servers (which continue to be kept in sync in the background - and in the process of debugging the migration issues, I have done some nice (I think) changes to the way that synchronization works). Anyway, I hope you all are having a peaceful end of the year! /D _______________________________________________ subsurface mailing list [email protected] http://lists.subsurface-divelog.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/subsurface
