I have rewritten the planner UI to be "smarter" about the space available - but 
I don't think this will ever be perfect.
There are some shortcomings in the UI toolkit that we use that make it hard to 
do this the "right" way.
But in my experiments the new version does much better.

I should be at the point to submit a new build soon - no idea, of course, when 
it will be available in the beta.
I'll post it on the website for side loading as well.
