Database Administration (DBA) professionals are primarily responsible for
designing, developing, implementing and maintaining database systems to
support business needs. They are typically involved in database creation>
and maintenance, database testing, problem resolution, and the managemen of
database integration activities. Database administration professionals
provide DBA consulting and support to business and technology
partners.>Individuals are also involved in traditional activities such as
performance monitoring/tuning, production database troubleshooting, backup
and
recovery, and supporting security administration for database access.
Database Administration professionals are expected to act as liaisons to
both internal and external clients. These individuals provide
recommendations regarding upgrade paths based on business trends and
user/workgroup processing requirements. Database Administration
professionals facilitate the development of supporting knowledge
architecture and standards, and work with operations staff to define
policies and security frameworks to ensure precise and secure delivery of
knowledge and information to appropriate constituencies. They also provide
user support in problem resolution, database testing, change control, and
database integration into the production environment. Individual must have a
solid understanding of physical modeling, database design principles,
database administration methodologies and techniques, and system
development lifecycle and system integration knowledge. They must
understand the business processes to ensure that database architectures and
data flows are meeting the business needs. Database Administration
professionals must be familiar with all modeling techniques.
