Well, that was a considerable improvement. I have gotten a few warnings, and now make is stuck and wants me to tell it what to do.

Well, here is a curiosity. The file that make is looking for appears to be named svg2png$(EXEEXT).Po through some curious error. I'll fix it and tell make to try again. Yes! build-base complained about libtiff, but after I installed libtiff4-dev, the build actually started. It's still chugging as I write.
