hmm. I'm not sure. In the later development builds, there is a control panel which can change be used to do this, so there must be a way to do it without deleting all those files. Try this. It worked for me on joyride 265, which has the control panel, but I didn't use it. Change the /home/olpc/.sugar/default/config file, setting the nick to whatever you want. Go back to the home view and restart X. (press ctrl alt erase) Now, the nick of your laptop should be whatever you set it to be in that file.
