Hi Dee, you need to define a new edge when the number of lanes changes (or let SUMO's netconvert do this, this is essentially what the split does). Currently it is not possible for the lanes of the same edge to have different lengths. The reason why the vehicles disappeared is that the edge after the split has a new name and probably did not occur in your route.
