Hello,
the issue with having a "walking area" across the whole junction comes from
the fact that pedestrians are allowed to walk on normal road edges by
default. Walkingareas connect all lanes that are adjacent and allow
pedestrians.
If you add sidewalks to the road using the netedit function 'add special
lane' (which automatically disallows pedestrians from walking on thevehicle
lanes) or just disallow pedestrians then the problem goes away.
