1) Open the network in netedit (ctrl-t while in sumo-gui)
2) got to select mode (S)
3) select 'lane' in the 'match attribute' control in the left pane
4) delete all text from bottom textbox in the match attribute control and
hit enter (empty text matches all objects of the specified type)

All lanes will be selected and their number is shown at the 'selected
items' overview in the top of the pane
