You can display custom labels by creating pois or polygons and enabling
either one of the following gui settings
- show poi names
- show poi types
- show polygon names
- show polygon types
This allows for 4 different sizes/colors of labels. You can make the
pois/polygons themselves invisible by setting their alpha to 0
Gui setting files can also be switched at runtime by setting another schema
Id.

You can also load raster images for pois which gives you additional freedom
for custom shapes and lettering.
