I'm quoting the new FAQ entry here: - make sure there are no unwanted jams <http://sumo.dlr.de/wiki/FAQ#The_simulation_has_lots_of_jams.2Fdeadlocks._What_can_I_do.3F> The more vehicles there are in the simulion, the slower it gets. - if your network is very large, build it with option --no-internal-links (simplified intersection model <http://sumo.dlr.de/wiki/Simulation/Intersections#Internal_links>) - If you are using trips or periodic rerouting, enable parallel routing <http://sumo.dlr.de/wiki/Demand/Automatic_Routing#Parallelization> - use the default step-lenght of 1s (using --step-length 0.1 slows down the simulation by a factor of 10) - if your simulation is very larger. consider using the mesoscopic simulation model <http://sumo.dlr.de/wiki/Simulation/Meso> - see below for further tips on slow-down
