Hello,
this requirement is similar to what is happening with railway simulation (
https://sumo.dlr.de/wiki/Simulation/Railways#Bidirectional_track_usage) so
I recommend the same approach. Place two edges directly on top of each
other and use the traffic light to ensure that only one of them is in use
at a time.
