you can also use the HBEFA3 classes:

1) see

and
https://sumo.dlr.de/docs/Models/Emissions/HBEFA3-based.html#vehicle_emission_classes
2) The HBEFA3 classes carry this information directly in the emission class
name HDV=heavy duty vehicle, LDV=light duty vehicle etc.
3) No. You should consult with Jan ([email protected]) as he may be able to help
you out.
