there is no need to build xerces by yourself (and I call into doubt that our wiki told you to do so :-). Please use the binary xerces releases which probably come with your distribution (if you are on some kind of linux) or are downloadable from the xerces site (for windows). If you assume the error is due to sumo please send the detailed output.
