I'm trying to simulate a three lane highway, but I know for a fact that if the traffic density is high enough, the cars will take the shoulder as a fourth lane. Knowing the hours of peak traffic (because of the flows) is it possible to make a four lane highway, but closing that extra lane and only make it available until a certain time in the simulation? I know you can do it by allowing/disallowing certain vehicle types on certain lanes within the net file, but how can it be done when the simulation has already started? In other words: how can I modify the net file on the fly? Could TraCi do this? In the future I will use this to simulate a HOV lane, so I will be very thankful for any suggestions.
