if you do not use an xml schema reference at the top of your file (i.e. xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"; xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://sumo.dlr.de/xsd/net_file.xsd";) than extra attributes will be silently ignored.
