Hello,
here is a brief overview:

PRO:
- open (no price attached and you can modify the code)
- powerful (tons of features)
- portable (supports all operating systems)
- fast (quick simulation of large scenarios)
- Also SUMO is quite well supported (documentation, mailing list,
continuous addition of features)

CONS:
- takes quite a bit of computer knowledge to get started (using the command
line, editing XML files, ...)
- some models lack validation

Some of these con's are being reduced over time (i.e. in the current
development version):
- netedit allows modifying networks without editing XML files
- web wizard allows building a scenario without using the command line

Model validation is an ongoing concern. We are planning on having some
publications in that regard next year.
