Hello, it is not clear what you mean by "the system stops working". Does the simulation crash, deadlock or simply starts jamming? In regard to crashing or deadlock, I highly recommend that you use the latest sumo version. Poisson (or rather binomial) traffic distribution is supported via <flow probability..../> (see http://sumo.dlr.de/wiki/Definition_of_Vehicles,_Vehicle_Types,_and_Routes#Repeated_vehicles_.28Flows.29 ).
