Hello,
my knowledge of SiMTraM is limited to it's original release some years ago
so this comparison may be outdated:
- SiMTraM uses sublanes that are part of the network description. In the
SUMO sublanes model, the lane divisions are computed dynamically at
simulation time so no special networks are required.
- SiMTraM is based on a very old SUMO version (0.12.x or something like
that). This means a lot of features that have since been added to SUMO
(intermodal simulation, mesoscopic simulation, graphical network editor,
electric vehicles, remote control for sublane simulation via TraCI) are not
available.
- The sublane-changing models are surely different (As far as I know,
different models were developed for SiMTram but I don't know them well
enough to give a comparison).
- The most recent publication on SiMTram that I am aware of is one from
2014:
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/275518003_Comparison_of_SUMO_and_SiMTraM_for_Indian_Traffic_Scenario_Representation
This is a comparison of a somewhat upgraded version of SiMTram with plain
SUMO (no sublane model).
- The latest publication on the SUMO sublane model is from 2016 (
http://elib.dlr.de/104432/1/SUMO_2016_paper_20.pdf) and another publication
on the model has been submitted which will become available this year.

regards,
Jakob
