Hello,
the observed behavior arises from the use of a low deceleration value (2.0
down from the default of 4.5).
Basically, this value describes the maximum possible deceleration. When set
to a low value, merging vehicles require much longer free gaps because the
vehicles of the main flow would take longer to brake. This is a consequence
of the safety-conservative model:
even if the merging vehicle would suffer a break-down and stop after
lane-changing, the upstream traffic must be able to avoid collision.
