About the question of "red" Sirius you can also read two papers
published recently in "The Journal for the History of Astronomy" by R.C.
Ceragioli. The first paper appeared in Vol 26, N o 3, aug. 1995, pp187-226
(The debate concerning red Sirius) and the second in Vol 27, N o2, may 1996,
pp93-128 (Soving the puzzle of red Sirius). Almost definitive about the
problem, they give very good (in my opinion) insights about the history and
the related mythologies. And especially, it appears also that in the past many
people throughout the world have seen and reported 'red' Sirius. As you can
still see it, when it rises or sets.
Best regards.
