My question about "What is a shaded sundial?" got no response. Perhaps
such a dial is known by other names.

Could such a dial be an ordinary dial, of any declination or inclination,
covered by a shade with a slot in it? If the shade has the slope of the
latitude of the dial, the slot forms a double style. Thus the time would
be read, not at the edge of a shadow but in the middle of a streak of
sunlight.

Harold Brandmaier showed a "slit style" in Figure A-6 of his book,
"A Sundial For Your Garden". Does anyone know of examples of sundials
built like this? What type of sundial should they be called?

Thanks again.
