Greetings,

Many thanks to those who wrote offering suggestions.  Considerable
experimentation with some very patient friends has resulted in a solution.
If I use the message part of Netscape 4.05 (Communicator) instead of Eudora
Lite 1.5.4, my attachments seem go through without mishap.  I find Eudora
much more user-friendly and will continue to use it for normal email, but
will switch to Netscape Communicator when sending attachments other than
.gif and .jpg files.  I've ordered Eudora Pro 4 - perhaps it does
attachments better than Eudora Lite.
