François, > >A question about motto festival
Having allowed a short while for responses from List members, Many Thanks for this important and constructive contribution > >When the list of mottoes will be published, will they be considered as >'public domain' mottoes or private ones with author rights ? Is there a rule >to follow if some one want to use the mottoes for any purpose. I might be >interested to include some of them in the on-line help of my free software >Shadows, in the next version. > >A rule could be to say they will be public domain, anonymous if the author >don't want to see his name published, or published together with the author >name if available. In this case, the motto and the author name could be >reused in any other publication. Although this point hasn't been made formally I think it has been the intention of all correspondents that the outcome of our collective effort should be 'public domain' and therefore freely available for any dialist to use on a sundial now and in the future. Inclusion in a published collection should obey the normal courtesies and name the author unless he/she requests anonymity. Would any contributor who wishes to remain anonymous, including those who have already sent entries, please make this clear with their entry or contact me directly. >A point might be added in the festival rules: the author should explicitly >indicate that he wants his name published or not. The default is: published. As the option to withold identity might encourage the hesitant to enter a motto may we please consider this added to the rules? Unless there are any strong objections within the next few days I will assume that the above additions are acceptable. Tony Moss
