>OK, here are my thoughts on the FAQ.

There should be a FAQ consisting of no more than 20 questions for
beginners. This should be stuff like, "What are the major kinds of
sundials," "How do I set up the sundial I bought", "How can I make a
simple sundial", and "How can I easily correct the sundial readings to
make standard time." The target audience is sundial list beginners and
people with little background in astronomy or dialling. It would also
be the standard thing sent to external groups asking for information on
sundials.

Then you take the other 300 questions and sort them by categories. The
categorization is the discussion you want the listserv to work on. Here
are some off-the-cuff suggestions:

FAQ
    20 common sundial questions
Theory of Sundials
    Shadows and Projections
    Daylight Savings Time
Effects of seasons on Sundial readings
    Latitude, Longitude, and Time Zones
    Equation of Time
    Analemmas
Spherical Trig and other Sundial Mathematics
History of Sundials
    Famous Historical Sundials
The Development of Sundial Designs through time
Sundials and the Development of Clocks (and/or)
Sundials and the Standards for Time
Sundial Types
    Equatorial
etc....includes the many interesting designs from the list,
all the usual designs from the standard references
How to Build a Sundial
How to calculate hour angles and other basic design features
Trade Secrets for Successful Designs (tips)
Construction Instructions (heavy duty welding, stonework, etc.)
Sundial World Tour (links to pictures of interesting or well-documented
sundials)

and of course
    Miscellany

Within each category, sort questions either by logical sequence (you
need this to do the next step) or by level of difficulty (easy to hard).
