Hi James,

17 November 1584.
Maximum of lunar eclipse at 23:58 UT.
A dark moon is rising at Mexico.
At the end of the eclipse the moon at Mexico is above the horizon and
could be visible.
At Madrid the moon is high in the sky and also could be visible.

This will work for longitudes for Mexico of about 100 W or smaller .

I used Redshift 2 to find out this date and time.
