Thank you for your message and image. Your suggestion is great.
Unfortunately it will not apply to the case in point because
of the place the dial is supposed to the placed: in the junction
of two roads, in the open air, subject to a lot of dust.

It has to be easy to be read by the motorists driving by
and, certainly, should not require much maintenance.

I think your idea is great for some interior garden
or certain urban regions.
