RE: sundial list excerpts/hotel?

Hi John,

Thanks for your note.

The NASS conference will be held at the Hilton Hartford hotel October 8-10,
1999. A special discounted rate is available to people attending the
conference ($89 vs. the regular $159 - but you have to be sure to identify
yourself as part of the conference when you make the reservation). The
following is an excerpt from information that was included with the
Compendium mailing. It is on the back of the Call For Papers page. I
separated it from the actual registration form, which has to be mailed in.
This way, you can keep the information handy until you arrive.

North American Sundial Society
Fifth Annual Conference October 8-10, 1999 Hartford CT

The fifth annual conference of the North American Sundial Society will be
held at the (newly renovated) Hilton Hartford in Hartford, CT from October
8 through October 10, 1999. Conference attendees must make their own hotel
reservations directly with the hotel's reservation department (at
860-728-5151) or with central reservations (at 1-800-HILTONS). A limited
number of single and double rooms have been set aside at the special
conference rate of $89.00 (plus 12% tax) per night. This rate applies only
to the nights Oct. 7th through October 10th. To ensure confirmation of the
conference rate, you must indicate that you are attending the North
American Sundial Society Conference and you must make your reservation no
later than September 17, 1999. Please note that no exceptions can be made
- the Fall foliage season is the hotel's peak time of year and our room
rates represent a considerable discount. After September 17, guests will
be accommodated only on a space and rate available basis. The hotel offers
covered self-parking at an additional charge.

The dates of the conference this year have been selected to give attendees
an opportunity to view the beautiful Fall Foliage in New England. A drive
north along Interstate 91 into Vermont in the week following the conference
would take you right into the peak viewing region. The gorgeous colors
usually reach their peak in Connecticut around October 15. Other
attractions in Hartford include The Mark Twain House - which Twain designed
and lived in while he wrote his most famous novels; and the Wadsworth
Atheneum - the oldest public art museum in the country. Other sites within
driving distance include The American Watch and Clock Museum (Bristol), Old
Mystic Seaport (Mystic) and Sturbridge Village (Sturbridge MA).

If anyone else would like to get registration material, please contact me
directly and I will be happy to send it to you right away.
