Danke schoen, Werner, for your clear explanation of the German 
situation.  I think you stated the basis for the confusion very well.  
Years ago, even before I was an astronomy major in college, I learned it 
as Apparent - Mean = EOT, which means that Apparent = Mean + EOT, and you 
would expect to find the sun from the clock time, not the other way 
around (except for a minus sign).
