In case of lost Qbasic files, here is
the formulae created by YVON MASSÉ to
solve easily this old problem.
I hope YVON returns soon to this list to teach (at least
to me) more things.

Let Az the azimut of the sun, h the altitude of the sun, g the height of the gnomon and s the length of the shadow. You can calculate the declination d of the wall as following: d = Az +/- arccos (g/(cos h.sqr (g.g + s.s))) Of course, you must choose one of the two values. Happy dialing Yvon ******** |
