The sundial in Torun is in the park situated in the triangel of the
streets: Bydgoska, Chopina and Av. 700-lecia Torunia. Near is the
``Kosmos'' hotel, at the Bydgoska street.

The ball has a diameter of about 4 meters and is made of concrete
covered with small granite tiles. There is a brass plate at the
sundial with the notice: ``The dial was made in a social deed by the
crew of the Toru/n Undertaking of General Building according to the
design by E. Szczech and H. Sawicki''

(in original: ``Zegar wykonala w czynie spo/lecznym
zaloga Torunskiego Przedsiebiorstwa Budownictwa Ogolnego
wedlug projektu E. Szczech i H. Siwickiego''

``Social deed'' meant in communist times a voluntary extra work
made to show the support of the workers to the communist country.
In fact the ``deed'' never was voluntary but mostly mandatory though
without a payment.
