Further to my previous posting, there is indeed a marker pole at
the true geographical pole. The marker is topped by a disc which
is regrettably not a sundial. Instead it pronounces "South
Geographic Pole - 'God what an awful place - 90d south". The
true pole and its marker is currently 50m from the 'Ceremonial pole'
which has 12 flags of nations. The true pole marker is repositioned
each year to take account of polar wandering and the movement
of the glacier.
Two JPGS can be mailed to those interested.
