Hello Chuck,
Thank you for your note, I too am amazed that I was able to track it
down. In Waugh, Gryphon was listed as a Burbank, CA company so I called
directory assistance and found a Gryphon listing. Apparently, Gryphon
Corp. was never a "sundial company" per se, they manufactured tooling
supplies (still do), the sundial was a side interest of the past owner
of the company. His son now runs the business and had kept his father's
sundial materials after he died. He had the original casting patterns
too.
Now that I have the patterns I'm planning on remaking the Gryphon
Sundial and will be selling them, so you can have one for yourself. I
should have them (and the Porter Sunclock) ready sometime around Y2K,
when all of us will need an accurate sundial! Stay in touch.
There wasn't much as far as documentation and I'd still be interested
in hearing from anyone who may have one (or saw it advertised) and still
has the supplied documents, it would be interesting to see the originals
or anything else related to it.
Best Regards,
Luke Coletti
