The recent postings seem to be a part of a frightening pattern. Whether provoked by an impostor or not does not matter.
I subscribe to another moderated list which recently witnessed a violent argument and a distinguished contributor was "kicked off" for disagreeing with the moderator. I monitor an unrelated newsgroup where the quality of posting has deteriorated to a similar low level. All of the above have been running placidly for the few years that I have been a member until this year. Is it something in the air? Is it the millenium effect (together with Kosovo, floods, and comets). Is it people who should be Y2K proofed and not computers? Is it time to crawl into one's shack with a supply of tins of beans, ammunition and a .50 cal machine gun? I sincerely hope not.
